Under the supervision of the Dean of the Post-graduate Institute for Accounting and Financial Studies, Assistant Professor Dr. Ali Mohammed Thajil Al-Maamouri, the Women’s Affairs Unit at the Institute held a seminar entitled “The Economic and Social Role of Women under Law No. 188 of 1959 and its Amendments.” The seminar took place in the Institute’s hall and featured presentations by Professor Dr. Mohammed Uloum Mohammed, a faculty member in the Department of Financial Studies; Assistant Professor Dr. Hanan Abdullah Hassan, also a faculty member in the Department of Financial Studies; and Legal Advisor Nibras Hashim Khalil, Head of the Consulting Unit in the Legal Division at the Institute. A number of faculty members and postgraduate students from the Institute participated in the seminar.

The seminar highlighted the importance of the law and the clear rights it grants women in matters of marriage and divorce, protecting family rights and the rights of working women. The law encourages women to enter the labor market with greater confidence, especially given the legal guarantees available in cases of divorce or loss of a provider.

The symposium concluded that the Personal Status Law is one of the most important Iraqi laws because it regulates family matters such as marriage, alimony, custody, guardianship, trusteeship, and inheritance in a uniform manner for all segments of society. A recommendation was made to find guarantees that ensure a decent life for women and for the family in general.
